PEAK DISTRICT HIGH LEVEL ROUTE - 90 miles
The Peak District High Level Route is }ohn Merrill’s classic
90 mile-circular walk around the edge of the Peak District
National Park. The route keeps to the highest ancl most
_ rugged parts as it weaves its way from Matlock across the
limestone plateaux to Dove Dale. Here it heads north to the
_ Roaches and Shining Tor. The northern end traverse's Chinley
_ Churn before crossing the southern edge of Kinder Scout to
Ladybower Reservoir, The eastern side follows the whole of
the gritstone edge system from Stanage to Beeley before
_ descending to the River Derwent and back to Matlock. It is
a hard walk involving more than 10,000 feet of ascent but
one that has numerous inns, hostels, campsites and
accommodation along its route, It can be walked comfortably
over a week and those who successfully complete it a special
embroidered badge and signed certificate are
available.
