THE LONG DISTANCE WALKERS ASSOCIATION
WHY MY BOOKS AND WORK ARE NOT ON THE LDWA (Long Distance Walkers Associations) WEBSITE
At one time all my challenge walk books and activities were on their website and in their handbook. I was even, one year, their guest speaker at their annual gathering.
However, I was happy to see my work on their website, including the badges for my various challenge walks. But I later saw my work being used without permission or any communication, on their website. This involved drawing new trail profiles, and adding gps codes of the route. This is against my intellectual property rights. I contacted a Property Rights lawyer, who confirmed this was out of order. He suggested I send them a Cease and Desist letter and said as a result they would enter into an agreement with me and pay fees for the gps details, which members had to pay for.
I had no reply from them but within 24 hours all my works, record breaking accomplishments - routes, books and badges were removed from their website. And no communication whatsover. has ever been received.
I wonder, if other guidebook writers are aware of their rights.
This is only the rip of the iceberg, as the internet means anyone can copy a route and state it as theirs and add it to their website. I have countless examples and have put a few on my Name and Shame page.
I work on the principal - honour, respect and acknowledge other peoples work.
